The Phulkari Movement

The Nabha Phulkari Mahila Industrial Cooperative Society Ltd, located in Punjab, was established to empower rural women artisans who specialize in the traditional embroidery art of Phulkari. The initiative aims to provide sustainable home-based employment while improving the economic and social status of women in the region.

This cooperative is supported by the Nabha Foundation and HPCL-Mittal Energy Limited (HMEL). Key efforts include building capacity for artisans, introducing new design innovations, and strengthening marketing strategies to enhance visibility and reach. Currently, we are working with 350 women artisans, offering them regular work opportunities, training, and support to improve their skills and livelihoods.

I’ve bought Nabha Phulkari for over a decade, and I’m truly a fan. These artisans stitch divinity into every thread. Each piece is rare, coveted, and beautiful even on the reverse. Handmade craft like this preserves our heritage and sustains its artisans.
